Laptop for Learning Scheme using EEE PC's
Area: Learning and Teaching / Independent learning with ICT
school: Eggbuckland Community College
location: Plymouth, SW1 region

Strength

The College has recently implemented a new Laptop for learning scheme building on the previous experience with Laptop Groups.  we setup in 2001 an eLearning Foundation which is a registered charity has been setup to provide students with laptops.

We provide students in Year 7 and 8 with an Asus EEE PC 901, which they can use in normal lessons to support activities.  The scheme is offered to parents and they pay the College monthly for the laptop.

The College provides technical support for 2 or 3 years and is responsible for co-ordinating all the repairs for the laptop, including processing of insurance claims, dealing with the manufacturer if the laptop needs to be returned and correcting any software faults.

The laptop comes with a comprehensive three year warranty and insurance package which covers the laptop against accidental damage and theft.  The laptop is also covered for the three years under the College’s software licensing scheme so your child’s laptop will always have the latest software installed.

As standard it will be installed with Windows XP Professional and Open Office.  We have taken the bold step to remove any restrictions and let the student personalise these laptop and connect to the wireless network in College.
