Strength
The school has extensive experience of using ICT to make assessment as effective as possible. We use online tests for certain subject areas (notably maths, science and ICT) and have developed a very good knowledge of how to use SIMS Assessment Manager to effectively track pupil progress across the primary school. The assessment cycle is very clear and the ICT aspects/inputs to it can be transferred to IT solutions you are already using.

Strength
ICT lies at the heart of many of our school improvement initiatives. We have developed a lesson observation/work scrutiny database to allow all lesson observations and work sampling judgements to be entered into a system which then allows you to produce reports summarising strengths and weaknesses by a range of variables (eg individual teacher, subject etc). This quickly produces summary data for reporting to governors, Ofsted and others and allows those responsible to have an accurate knowledge of the quality of provision in their subject/area. Invaluable for performance management too.

Strength
The school has been using Accelerated Reader as the basis for our reading at home policy for several years. The way we have used Accelerated Reader has resulted in a highly effective, inclusive system for ensuring all children read at home. Children choose books to read at home from a wide range of texts (real books - the kind of books already in classrooms) and then have a weekly test date when they bring the book back to school and take a short computer-based quiz. All books are levelled by reading difficulty, ensuring that all children who choose books at the appropriate level have the chance of experiencing success by obtaining good marks in the tests.

Strength
The school has a rigorous and well-established lesson observation programme which lies at the heart of the school’s effectiveness. All subject leaders are trained in lesson observation techniques and how to make judgements about the quality of teaching and learning using Ofsted judgement tables.

Spend half a day with our ICT coordinator, observing lessons in school. Together you will make judgements about the quality of teaching and carefully analyse lessons to identify the strengths and next steps needed.

Strength
Several years ago the school forged an innovative partnership with Onsite Solution Services Limited. OSS now have their head office at Woodberry Down School and this ensures unrivalled support for our large IT network. We still pay for IT services from OSS. They, in turn, pay us rent. However, the informal links that have developed benefit both sides.

OSS can, through contact with the school, provide a range of services. Free ‘health checks’ and follow up reports on your school’s network are available.

The school makes extensive use of SIMS Assessment Manager to ensure all pupil data relating to targets, progress etc is stored in a central system. We have been using Assessment Manager to write IEPs for over a year now and the system is very effective and time saving. The final IEP can draw on a range of other information already in Assessment Manager producing a comprehensive plan for each child.

Strength
Over the last two years we have considerably increased the role of ICT across the curriculum. Maths is no exception. A range of different programs seek to support whole class teaching, individual learning and classroom assistant led groups. Tracking systems (through Assessment Manager) are key to monitoring outcomes, celebrating achievment and intervening where necessary.
