school: Djanogly City Academy
location: Nottingham, EM region

Bored of using over-burdening spreadsheet assessment systems? Tired of working through complex database monitoring systems? Fed up of having to do all your assessment in school?

We currently do assessments online - this means from anywhere at anytime. You only see the students you teach, rather than wading through thousands of names. Departmental systems link in with school assessment systems and provide a 'traffic-light' reporting system linked to student data, giving immediate visual reports highlighting areas of concern and where intervention is required.

Wireless network for classroom use
Area: Technical / Wireless networking
school: Djanogly City Academy
location: Nottingham, EM region

Strength
At the Academy we have extensive experience of wireless networks. It is easier to use wireless laptop computers and they are less intrusive in a classroom! Students using wireless laptops show much greater integration of the technology within lessons than when using PCs - even when PCs are arranged in collaborative clusters. Wireless networks provide great freedom for the users - offering anytime, anywhere learning.

It allows students greater movement, permits easy showing of work to fellow students and offers greater opportunity for collaboration. Students can use wireless laptops wherever they are learning! Wireless networks provide constant access to critical information (e.g. for teachers to access student assessment records). A combination of laptop computers and wireless networking provides great flexibility for different class sizes. Wireless networks allow smaller more mobile devices that save space in the classroom and allow better teacher vision. They also help reduce the tangle of cables.

Using lapsafes we have been able to offer mobile learning in classroom for several years now.

We have a wealth of experience of setting up and making use of wireless networks that we can share with you

Multi-purpose school website
Area: Technical / Web development
school: Djanogly City Academy
location: Nottingham, EM region

Strength
At Djanogly City Academy we believe a web site is more than just a means for a school to brand itself online. It provides the opportunity to reach new worlds, to provide means of two-way communications. It provides a link to parents and the wider community.

Businesses and commerce are now doing great things with the Internet. The worlds of eCommerce, eLearning and interactivity have yet to be fully utilised in schools. This is our next step with our website. Though we have a fully functional eLearning system in place, we are now looking at other online means to enhance teaching, learning and communication. Consider, parents being able to top-up student smart cards via the school website. Parents tapping into student attendance data at anytime in the day. Students managing their work areas as intelligent web spaces.

Service
The opportunities are simply waiting for us in schools to realise and implement them. Why not join us on this journey towards more effective online systems.
