Ripple Infants School

School description:

Located in an area of socio-economic disadvantage this 'Outstanding' (Ofsted, June 2005) infants school has excelled in providing a curriculum in which ICT is fully embedded throughout every lesson. Despite a very-low base-line entry, attainment has increased significantly in all areas over the duration of our involvemnt in the DfES ICT Test Bed initiative.

Whole class interactive teaching technologies are used within 95% of lessons, providing children with digitally enriched learning and personalised learning choices. Wrap-round ICT coverage is provided by a 1:2 PC:Pupil ratio, giving children a fully ICT-embedded curriculum. An area in which we excell is in extending learning beyond the school gates:

  • Home-loaned PCs containing specialist digital content provided by software companies;
  • Computer clubs and after-school drop in sessions;
  • multi-lingual (8 languages!) website, containing over 150 school-produced digital resources for stake-holders;
  • Children remotely accessing their ICT-school work from home
  • 75% of parents receive email newsletters and/or sms text messages;

The availability of electronic copies of key school documentation has resulted in staff efficiency, with less duplication of paper-based tasks. Electronic based office systems provide more efficient tracking of attendance, resulting in an attendance increase of 1.6% over 3 years and unauthorised absences down by 50%.

Further Achievements and Endorsements:

  • University of East London sends PGCE students to see exemplar practice;
  • Appointed a SLICT (Strategic Leadership of ICT) host school by NCSL;
  • Presence on the National ICT Register;
  • Ambassador status awarded by Espresso and 2Simple;
  • Exemplar teaching practice filmed by Becta.
