Parental Engagement - Introduction

It matters that parents are engaged in their children's learning and care about their performance; indeed recent research has shown that parental engagement is a decisive factor in determining learner achievement.

Parental Engagement of course goes beyond the technology but it has a vital role to play in facilitating parents' timely access to information about their children and their education.

We know that schools benefit from working together and learning from each other, therefore the ICT Register is working with Becta and the EPRA (Engaging Parents to Raise Achievement Team) to support a group of ICT Register Schools willing to share their expertise in this area.

Secondary School Parental Engagement and Online Reporting Briefings

On behalf of Becta and the Department for Children Schools and Families, the SSAT are organising a programme of Free Regional Online Reporting briefings. These half day briefings will include:

  • clarification of DCSF expectations for September 2010.
  • information from Becta and the SSAT about parental engagement and online reporting.
  • discussion with colleagues about improving practice and overcoming barriers to progress.
Schools are invited to send members of the leadership team to any of these events. For more information visit Becta Briefings.
